This week's new-release Friday brought fresh Neil Young, a 45th-anniversary Phil Collins box and a Seger favorite back on vinyl \u2014 plus more Rush tour dates and a win for AM radio in Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If your record shelf has been feeling a little settled lately, this was the week to shake it up. Friday, September 18 turned into one of the busiest release days of the fall for classic rock fans, with new music and landmark reissues arriving all at once.<\/p>\n

Leading the pack: Neil Young released 'Second Song,' his latest collaboration with his band the Chrome Hearts and the follow-up to last year's 'Talkin to the Trees.' The man simply does not slow down. Also out Friday, the Bangles' Susanna Hoffs delivered 'The List,' a new album of all-original material.<\/p>\n

The reissue racks got even richer. Phil Collins marked 45 years of his solo debut with 'Face Value (Full Value),' an expanded four-LP set that also comes as a Blu-ray with new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo mixes of the album that gave us 'In the Air Tonight.' Bob Seger \u2014 always a favorite around here \u2014 celebrated 20 years of his 2006 comeback 'Face the Promise' with an expanded edition adding four songs and putting the album on vinyl for the first time. David Bowie collectors got 'The Shel Talmy Recordings,' 21 early tracks cut with the producer behind the Who and the Kinks. And coming this Friday, September 25: a 60th-anniversary super-deluxe edition of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention's 'Freak Out!' with five CDs and a Blu-ray, plus new albums from Europe and a massive Joy Division live box.<\/p>\n

On the road, Rush has expanded its Fifty Something Tour with four more U.S. arena shows: Houston's Toyota Center on October 1, St. Louis on October 21, Cincinnati on October 23 and Pittsburgh on November 15. The band said it turns out they don't need quite as much recovery time between shows as they'd planned \u2014 music to fans' ears.<\/p>\n

Some good news for radio itself, too. The U.S. House passed the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act this week and sent it on to the Senate \u2014 a bill broadcasters have championed as a public-safety measure to keep AM receivers in new cars. And mark your calendars: FEMA and the FCC have scheduled the first nationwide Emergency Alert System test since 2023 for November 17 at 2:20 p.m. Eastern, so don't be alarmed when your radio interrupts itself that afternoon.<\/p>\n

Finally, a little rock history for September 20. On this day in 1975, David Bowie's 'Fame' \u2014 co-written with John Lennon and Carlos Alomar \u2014 hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Bowie's first American chart-topper. And in 1980, Ozzy Osbourne released his first solo album, 'Blizzard of Ozz.' Forty-six years on, 'Crazy Train' still sounds like it's just leaving the station.<\/p>\n
