Grab your coffee, because there's a fair bit happening in music today. Here's your Pretoria Fields Radio rundown.

The Rolling Stones are still keeping it fresh. Today they released a music video for "Mr Charm," from their album Foreign Tongues, and actor Alexander Skarsgård stars in it. Louder Sound calls the song the band's commentary on the perilous state of the world, and it includes a line or two aimed at Elon Musk. Mick and the boys still have something to say.

If you like your music with a little red dirt on it, today is a big release day. Miranda Lambert's new album Crisco is out today, along with Wynonna Judd's The Hard Truth, Lee Brice's Sunriser and Gavin Adcock's The Day I Hang It Up. That's a lot of new music for the porch this weekend.

Collectors, this one's for you. The Beatles' 1965 classic Rubber Soul is out today in several reissue formats, including the first standalone Blu-ray audio release the Fab Four have ever had. Elvis Costello's 1977 debut, My Aim Is True, also arrives today as a five-CD box set.

Out west, Metallica have started a 24-date residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, opening with a classic setlist and the kind of visuals that venue is known for. And Peter Gabriel has announced a new album called o\\i, due in November. He says it's the longest album he has ever made.

Over in the radio world, the Museum of Broadcast Communications will induct its 2026 Radio Hall of Fame class next Thursday, October 8. The eight inductees include Boomer Esiason, iHeartMedia chairman Bob Pittman, Rickey Smiley, and Shotgun Tom Kelly of SiriusXM's 60s on 6. Congratulations to all of them from your friends here at Pretoria Fields Radio.

Now for a look back, because October 2 has a rich history. On this day in 1971, Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. On this date in 1982, John Cougar Mellencamp's "Jack & Diane" hit the top spot, the only No. 1 of his career. Pink Floyd released Atom Heart Mother on October 2, 1970, and it became their first No. 1 album in the UK. Two birthdays today, too: Genesis co-founder Mike Rutherford, born in 1950, and Sting, born in 1951.

Today is also a tender one. Tom Petty died on October 2, 2017, at age 66. He was a Gainesville, Florida, boy whose songs always felt like home down here, and he's still dearly missed. If you've got "Wildflowers" or "Southern Accents" handy, now's a good time to play them. We'll be spinning some Petty for you today too. Stay tuned, and thanks for listening to Pretoria Fields Radio.

— The Pretoria Fields Radio news desk

A new Rolling Stones video, a busy release day for country and Americana, Rubber Soul reissued, Metallica's Las Vegas residency underway, and a few October 2 milestones worth turning up.
