Here's what's going on this Thursday, October 22.

Good morning, south Georgia, and welcome to your Thursday music roundup. Pour another cup of coffee, because there's a lot to get through.

We'll start with a birthday. Fifty-seven years ago today, on October 22, 1969, Atlantic released Led Zeppelin II in the United States. The band cut it over several months between tour stops, and it became their first album to reach number one in both America and Britain. "Whole Lotta Love" went to number four on the Billboard Hot 100, and the RIAA certified the album 12 times platinum back in 1999. Not bad for a record made in hotel rooms and on the road.

The Rolling Stones have new music out. They just released "Who You Callin' Crazy," an upbeat song driven by saxophone. It comes from Loose Lips, an upcoming expanded edition of their album Foreign Tongues. Some sixty-odd years in, they're still at it.

Aerosmith fans, this one's for you. The band has posted the first photos from rehearsals for their comeback at the Hollywood Bowl, and drummer Joey Kramer is back in the lineup. Out in Las Vegas, the Eagles have added more dates to their record-breaking residency at the Sphere. That brings the total to 74 shows in a room that holds 20,000 people.

Here's one for the trivia file. When you add up physical sales, downloads and streaming, Nirvana's Nevermind has now passed AC/DC's Back in Black to become the sixth best-selling album of all time. It has also moved ahead of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon.

There's an update on Billy Joel, too. He says he doesn't know when he'll perform again. His neurologist has told him each show hits him like a concussion, and he still has more tests ahead. His agent says he's doing well with therapy and still hopes Billy will tour again. We're pulling for you, Piano Man.

Our Americana and country listeners have a new album to look forward to. Brothers Osborne release their fifth studio album, Watertown, tomorrow on MCA. It's named for the small Maryland waterfront town where they grew up. Jay Joyce produced the 11 songs, and the album includes duets with Cody Johnson and Stephen Wilson Jr.

Finally, some news from the radio world. Up in Boston, iHeartMedia has announced that Carter Alan will retire from 100.7 WZLX after a 47-year career. He's the man credited with introducing U2 to American radio when he played "I Will Follow" in 1980. His last midday show is Friday, December 18. Elsewhere, the National Association of Broadcasters named this year's Marconi Radio Award winners in New York. And a new Nielsen report says radio still reaches more Americans every month than any other measured media platform. That's good news for those of us here at the station.

That's the news for now. Stay tuned to Pretoria Fields Radio, where the classics never quit and there's always a good song on the way.

— The Pretoria Fields Radio news desk

Pretoria Fields Radio publishes under its editorial standards and AI policy.
