Pour another cup of coffee, because the record shelves got a good deal heavier this week.

Let's start with the man who more or less invented the heavy metal riff. Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi released a new solo album, From the Dark, on Friday through BMG. It's an eight-track record and his first solo album since Fused back in 2005. Jørn Lande sings, Becky Baldwin plays bass and Karl Brazil plays drums, and Iommi co-produced it with Mike Exeter. Twenty-one years is a long wait, but it was worth it.

Over on the country side, Brothers Osborne set Friday, October 23, as the release date for their fifth studio album, Watertown, on MCA. It's named for their hometown, the little Chesapeake Bay town of Deale, Maryland. Jay Joyce produced the 11 tracks, and the album features the duo's first full-length collaborations: "Born and Raised Hell" with Cody Johnson and "Tough Kid" with Stephen Wilson Jr.

Friday's other new releases include Tom Morello's Everyone Gets Everything They Want, a new album from Elton John's longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin called The Sea Has No Mercy, and a live Doors release, Unbound and Dangerous. Next Friday brings a full load of reissues: an expanded Head Games from Foreigner, a super deluxe Who by Numbers from The Who, and a 45th anniversary box of Mötley Crüe's Too Fast for Love. Boogie fans should also watch for Foghat's live set, Live and Loud Across the U.S.A.

If you can get to Los Angeles, Aerosmith's classic lineup reunites at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29 and November 1 for two shows billed as "California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends." That means Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer, who last played with the band in 2020. Members of Guns N' Roses, The Black Crowes, Heart and Run-DMC are expected as guests. No other dates have been announced.

A couple of other notes: Lita Ford has signed with Frontiers Music, and her new single, "Dracula," comes out Tuesday, October 27. Bon Jovi has also added stadium dates to its 2027 Forever Tour, including MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and Soldier Field in Chicago.

Now for some radio news. The Radio Hall of Fame inducted its Class of 2026 earlier this month in Chicago. The eight inductees include iHeartMedia chief Bob Pittman, Shotgun Tom Kelly of SiriusXM's 60s Gold, and Boomer Esiason of WFAN. In Washington, the FCC heard opposing views this week on radio ownership caps, so that debate isn't over yet.

And a little history for today, October 24. Elton John released Rock of the Westies on this date in 1975, the same day Roxy Music put out Siren and John Lennon released his first greatest-hits set, Shaved Fish. Happy 90th birthday to Bill Wyman, who held down the bottom end for the Rolling Stones for three decades.
