He has suited up for three of these games as a Bulldog and has yet to start one and finish it, DawgNation reported Wednesday. Last year's edition cost him the rest of his season with a knee injury. So here he is, a fourth-year defensive tackle, healthy at last and playing the best football of his life, and the game has packed its bags and moved to Atlanta. Some men can't catch a break. Hall can't catch one in his own hometown.

The best-football part is not sentiment. DawgNation counted two and a half tackles for loss for Hall this season, more than his first three seasons put together, along with 11 tackles and a blocked field goal against Vanderbilt. Kirby Smart told reporters Monday that Hall "does not want to be seen as a loafer or someone that doesn't play with high effort and that carries over to the other guys." Offensive lineman Drew Bobo, who has lined up across from him in practice for four years, called him "an elite effort guy" and said going against Hall every day has made him a better player.

Some men can't catch a break. Jordan Hall can't catch one in his own hometown.

Which matters Saturday, because Florida's offense begins with Jadan Baugh and the run game, and Hall's office is the middle of the line. Smart said Monday the Gators "got a great run scheme and they got a great back to do it with," and Georgia's athletic department notes the Bulldogs lead the SEC and rank 10th nationally against the run, allowing 91.4 yards a game. Senior linebacker Raylen Wilson put the assignment plainly Tuesday: Baugh runs through arm tackles, so bring your feet and wrap him up. That starts with somebody up front holding his ground, and that somebody is frequently Hall.

Georgia's first availability report of the week lists running back Chauncey Bowens and receiver Isiah Canion as questionable alongside safety KJ Bolden, 247Sports reported, with Thomas Blackshear, Amaris Williams and Tyriq Green out. Smart told reporters Monday he honestly didn't know where Bolden and Canion stood because the team hadn't practiced since Thursday. On Williams, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Smart said the outside linebacker is doing great in rehab but is in no shape to play. Bowens has not played since the first half against Vanderbilt, and a healthy Bowens would change Georgia's run game more than any scheme tweak could.

Florida's report, meanwhile, hands Jon Sumrall a gift. Receiver Vernell Brown III, the Gators' leading pass catcher before a knee strain against Ole Miss, is listed probable after missing three games, WRUF reported. He had 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns when he went down, and Sumrall said after Monday's practice he looked good enough. Running back Duke Clark is questionable and linebacker Jaden Robinson doubtful, according to 247Sports. Florida still hasn't said whether Tramell Jones Jr. or Aaron Philo takes the first snap, and Smart said Monday the Gator offense doesn't require the quarterback to be perfect. That is a coach's way of saying it won't matter much.

The bookmakers have Georgia by twelve and a half with a total of fifty-three and a half, same as the summer look-ahead, though the moneyline has drifted from minus 500 to minus 550. The desk's Moneyball model says Georgia 30, Florida 21, wins seventy percent of its simulations and covers in only 41.7 percent of them. ESPN's power index is more confident at 82.7. Those are the numbers. Here is a hunch: if Jordan Hall is still on the field for the final whistle Saturday, Georgia probably likes the scoreboard. Atlanta is not Jacksonville, but a finish is a finish, and the man is owed one.

The Notebook

THE WEEKEND'S EARTHQUAKE: UCF beat No. 2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime, the Knights' first win ever over a top-five team, and BYU tumbled to No. 8. Cincinnati stunned No. 8 Texas Tech 37-24 the same afternoon, and Texas held off Ole Miss 34-27 with an end-zone interception.

THE COUNTDOWN: Two days. Georgia and Florida, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the first time this game has left Jacksonville since 1995, with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the call.

THE SLATE: Notre Dame by 30 and a half over Navy at noon is a desk lock, and so is Indiana by 20 and a half over Minnesota.
