It did not read like a game program. It read like the sign-in sheet at a walk-in clinic. Ole Miss listed nine players out. Georgia, which had already lost outside linebacker Amaris Williams, ruled out three more. In this league in November you do not play the team on the schedule. You play whatever is left of it, and tonight both sides are showing up a little lighter than they drew it up in August.

DawgNation reported that linebacker AJ Kruah, defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye and defensive back Tyriq Green are out, with Isaiah Gibson named next man up for Jonah-Ajonye. The better news came in the lines that were not there. Cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, who left the Florida game holding his knee, was not on the report at all, which in this business means he is playing. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported receiver Isiah Canion is probable for his first action since September, and Chauncey Bowens and Thomas Blackshear both moved from questionable to probable. Bowens has not played since Vanderbilt.

In this league in November you do not play the team on the schedule, you play whatever is left of it.

The Rebels' list is longer and heavier. The Rebel Walk reported that safety Edwin Joseph will not be back from ankle surgery, that leading tackler Keaton Thomas moved up to probable, and that defensive end Kam Franklin, with five tackles for loss and two sacks this fall, was still questionable about twenty-three hours before kickoff. Linebacker Luke Ferrelli came off the report entirely after weeks with a bad ankle. And Kewan Lacy, the leading rusher, remains out with a separated shoulder. The Rebels ran for 224 yards on Auburn without him, so nobody in Athens is counting on that hole staying open.

Why do the missing names up front matter more than the missing names at receiver? Because Kirby Smart told you himself after the Florida win, in words Georgia's athletic department passed along this week. "I think anybody will tell you, if you can't run the ball, and they struggled to run it, it makes you one-dimensional, and then everybody gets to feast and rush the passer." The athletic department notes Ole Miss sits ninth in the SEC running the ball at 157.5 yards a game and Georgia third at 200.1. The Rebels' two losses this year came when they ran for 128 or fewer and the other fellow ran for better than 200. Georgia ran for 217 on Florida.

The market has not budged an inch. Georgia is still a three-point favorite with the total at 56.5, right where it opened last Sunday, and the Kalshi crowd gives Georgia 59 percent. ESPN's computer says 55.5. The desk's own opponent-adjusted rating, which is less sentimental than any of them, makes it Ole Miss by about a point in Oxford, which is the mathematical way of saying flip a coin and don't look. The weather will not break the tie: clear, mid-50s, barely a breeze. Whatever happens tonight will be the players' doing, and there are fewer of them than there were on Monday.

The Notebook

FRIDAY'S FINAL: No. 22 Arizona beat TCU 29–28 on Friday night, the one ranked game the desk had to stay up for before the Saturday slate.

THE SLATE: Miami at Notre Dame, Irish by seven, kicks at 7:30 Eastern, same window as Georgia. Alabama at LSU, Tigers by six, goes at 3:30, and Texas at Missouri, Longhorns by two and a half, is the noon coin flip.

SIDELINE GUEST: Sports Illustrated reports five-star 2028 edge Asher Ghioto, who grew up a Georgia fan and wore No. 34 for Herschel Walker, will watch tonight from the Ole Miss sideline. The Rebel Walk counts at least 22 recruits in the building.

Written in the tradition of Lewis Grizzard, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 1946–1994.

Hear the desk read tonights report on Radio Free Albany, WPFQ 96.7.

Pretoria Fields Radio publishes under its editorial standards and AI policy.
