DawgNation reported that Georgia's head coach dropped the thermostat in the indoor practice facility to the low 50s so his team could rehearse for Oxford, where tonight's kickoff will come in under 50 degrees, the coolest weather Georgia has played in all season. Smart said on his Bulldogs Live show that his players love the cold. Now, any man who turns the heat down on purpose in Georgia in November is either arguing with his power company or getting ready for a football game, and I have never known Kirby to argue with the power company.

The thermostat is theater. The actual plan, Smart said, is a fast start to quiet the crowd, and Georgia has been rather good at that, outscoring opponents 94 to 14 in the first quarter this season. Mike Bobo told reporters Tuesday that the offense is simplifying some things so it can play fast in Vaught-Hemingway, where false starts are common and a man cannot hear his own center. Bobo also said Gunner Stockton will probably run more in the bigger game. That matters because the last time these teams met, in the Sugar Bowl, Ole Miss held Georgia to three of thirteen on third down.

Any man who turns the heat down on purpose in Georgia in November is either arguing with his power company or getting ready for a football game.

There is also the small matter of Oxford itself. Smart is 0 and 2 there as Georgia's coach, the Athens Banner-Herald reported, including a 45 to 14 whipping in 2016 and the loss two years ago that ended with Ole Miss fans on the field. Outside linebacker Quintavius Johnson told the paper that going back after a field storm gives Georgia a chip. Ole Miss is 5 and 0 at home this year and lost both of its road games. Ten NFL teams sent scouts, the paper said, most of them to look at Chris Cole and Ellis Robinson. Robinson, mercifully, is back.

Trinidad Chambliss is still the man Georgia has to solve. Elijah Griffin told reporters Tuesday that the defensive line simply has to keep him in the trap, which is easier said in Athens than done in Oxford. Smart put it another way on his radio show this week: the best way to play Chambliss is with your own offense, scoring points and keeping him on the sideline. The Rebels' quarterback has thrown eight interceptions in eight games after three all of last season, Sports Illustrated's film review found, and Pete Golding said Monday the staff told him to quit trying to live up to the hype. A quarterback who presses is a quarterback Georgia can catch.

As for the money, nobody has moved. Georgia is still a three-point favorite with a total of 56 and a half, the same numbers the desk wrote down a week ago. Kalshi has Georgia at 59 percent, ESPN's power index at 55 and a half, and the desk's own opponent-adjusted rating, which does not care about hype or thermostats, has Ole Miss by about a point in Oxford. Call it a coin flip, because that is what it is. The three defenders Georgia ruled out Friday do not help, but Chauncey Bowens and Thomas Blackshear are probable, which is more bodies than Kirby has had in a while. Dress warm.

The Notebook

FRIDAY'S FINAL: No. 22 Arizona beat TCU 29 to 28 on Friday night, the one ranked game the desk had to stay up for before the Saturday slate.

THE SLATE: Miami at Notre Dame, Irish by seven, kicks at 7:30 Eastern in Georgia's window.
