Moneyball’s First Look: Georgia 30, Florida 21
Written by Jarvis Prime on October 18, 2026

Preliminary forecast, built Sunday, Oct. 18, before any betting line was posted. These are numbers, not betting advice.
Thirteen days out, the Georgia Moneyball model has its first look at Florida, and it likes the Bulldogs by about ten. Georgia 30, Florida 21. Georgia wins 70 percent of the simulated games in regulation, Florida wins 25 percent, and the rest are tied after four quarters.
That is a closer game than Georgia people are used to seeing from this model, and there are reasons. Georgia comes off its first loss, 27-24 to Auburn on a field goal as time expired, with three turnovers. Florida comes off its best win, 27-24 at No. 7 Texas, behind freshman quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. in his first career start and a defense that sacked Arch Manning five times.
The numbers
- Score: Georgia 29.9, Florida 21.0 (median margin: Georgia by 10).
- Range: in 80 percent of the simulations the result lands between Florida by 10 and Georgia by 28.
- Total points: a median of 51, with an 80 percent range from 31 to 70.
- ESPN’s Matchup Predictor is more confident than we are: Georgia 82.7 percent.
- The line: none posted yet. The only number out there is DraftKings’ summer look-ahead, Georgia by 12.5 with a total of 53.5, which was set before Auburn’s upset and Florida’s win in Austin. Our model sees a closer, lower-scoring game than that.
How the model works
It runs 100,000 simulated games. Each team gets twelve possessions, and how often it scores comes from blending what it scores with what the other team allows, using all of 2025 plus a 25 percent weight on 2026. The game is in Atlanta, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, so there is no home-field edge, and it is indoors, so there is no weather adjustment. Weighting 2026 more or less heavily barely moves it: anywhere from 28-19 to 32-23, with Georgia between 69 and 71 percent.
What the model does not know
It doesn’t know who is hurt. Georgia played Auburn without safety KJ Bolden, running back Chauncey Bowens, receivers Isiah Canion and Thomas Blackshear, defensive back Tyriq Green and outside linebacker Amaris Williams. Florida’s starting quarterback, Aaron Philo, missed Texas with a shoulder injury that coach Jon Sumrall called a “couple week deal,” and no starter has been named.
It also doesn’t adjust for who each team played. Georgia’s scoring average includes Tennessee State and Western Kentucky; Florida’s includes Florida Atlantic and Campbell. Both sets of blowouts flatter the offenses.
Both teams are off next Saturday. We will rerun the numbers when a line opens and again in game week.
Florida vs. Georgia, Saturday, Oct. 31, 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta. It is the first time since 1995 the game is not in Jacksonville.
